Two people are dead after a serious crash on a road between Clevedon and Kawakawa Bay.
Police say a car collided with a power pole on Clevedon-Kawakawa Road at 7.30pm.
They were initially believed to be critically injured, police later said the pair died.
The road remains closed and traffic management is in place.
Another crash earlier today on Princes Street East in Ōtāhuhu left a person in critical condition. They are now in hospital.
Inspector Jason Homan said high speed appeared to be a factor in both crashes.
"We don't want to see any more lives lost this holiday period," Homan said.
"We are pleading with people to slow down, wear your seatbelts, and don't drive if you've been drinking or are fatigued."
