New Zealand Prime Minister John Key pushed for free trade in talks on Friday with President Park Geun-Hye of South Korea in Seoul.

AAP reports talks on a Free Trade Agreement with South Korea have stalled and the issue was expected to be raised at the meeting.

"I made the president aware of the importance we place on getting a free trade agreement in place so that New Zealand companies can compete on an equal footing in the Korean marketplace with the United States and other countries with which Korea has concluded FTAs," Mr Key said afterwards.

Mr Key said the talks covered many areas of co-operation, including trade, tourism, science and technology, and defence.

He extended an invitation for President Park to visit New Zealand when her schedule permits.
