RNZ podcast The Detail has been named one of New Zealand's favourite podcasts for 2023 on the Apple Podcasts platform.
The show, produced by Newsroom for RNZ and made possible by NZ on Air, placed third on the New Zealand chart for the year, is just one of two locally produced shows in the top 10.
"The Detail has millions of downloads every year and has become a daily habit for thousands, making sense of the news. And we're stoked that The Aotearoa History Show is being shared and used so widely," RNZ's executive producer of podcasts and series Tim Watkin said.
"We know it's a big part of the New Zealand history curriculum in schools but it's great it's also a primer - along with Black Sheep - for adults wanting a simple and balanced way into our history."
The chart reflected the most popular shows and episodes using a mix of listening, follows and completion rates (Apple did not share the exact algorithm it used to determine the rankings "to protect its integrity").
The top spot went to Australian crime show Casefile, which was followed by science show Huberman Lab.
The only other New Zealand-produced show in the top 10 was NZME's Between Two Beers at number eight.
On other lists, RNZ Originals was #3 on the list of Top Free Channels. RNZ's The Aotearoa History Show was second on the Top History Shows list and Black Sheep was sixth.
The Aotearoa History Show was also 10th on the Most Shared Shows list. Crimes NZ placed eighth on the list of Top True Crime Shows.
Earlier this week NZ On Air announced The Detail would be funded for another year, to the tune of $530,012.
