With education funding hitting the headlines this week, we thought now was as good a time as ever to introduce you to one of the many heroes of the New Zealand music scene – a music teacher.
Jane Pierard has made a career out of teaching young people music in Hawkes Bay, from the teenagers of Taradale High School and their adventures at The Big Sing, to bringing up a family of very musical children.
And she still finds time for adults too, as Director of Hawkes Bay choir, The Linden Singers.
Bryan Crump caught up with Jane to find out why she became a music teacher and what it is that draws her to working with young people.
