Invercargill MP Sarah Dowie's electorate office is back open for business this morning, despite an open police investigation into a text allegedly sent from her phone.

Former National MP Jami-Lee Ross named Ms Dowie as somebody he had a two-year affair with while they both worked at Parliament.

He did so during his kamikaze effort to take down the National leadership in October last year, but media withheld her name until news of an open police investigation last week.

It is understood the police are looking at whether the text to Mr Ross, which included the words "you deserve to die" breached the Harmful Digital Communications Act rules around inciting suicide.

Both Ms Dowie and Mr Ross are expected to return to Parliament on 12 February.
