Queenstown group gets council to listen

11:06 am on 4 July 2013

A community group's vision for the future of the Queenstown Lakes District is starting to yield results, with the district council adopting the first of its recommendations.

Shaping Our Future is designed to allow residents to steer the direction of the district.

Chairperson David Kennedy says while any recommendations are non-binding, agencies should take notice.

Mayor Vanessa van Uden said the council found it hard to ignore the Shaping Our Future team.

With thousands of people backing the group, she said it provides the council with a view of what residents actually think and saves the council spending money on consultants.
