Officials in the Northern Marianas are reporting a fall in imports and export cargo volumes, as a result of the downturn in the country's garment industry.
The Saipan Tribune newspaper reports in the last six months, inbound garment cargo has fallen 16-percent compared with the same period a year before.
Outbound garment cargo fell nine per cent in the last half-year.
Three garment factories have ceased operations on Saipan since trade quotas on the textile industry were lifted on the first of January this year.
