The new Interislander ferry Kaiarahi arrived in Wellington early this morning after a 13-day trip from Singapore.
The 180-metre ferry - previously known as the Stena Alegra - has been refitted to meet Interislander requirements, including new passenger lounges.
It will replace the Arahura on the route between Wellington and Picton.
When the ship was known at the Stena Alegra it broke down in Wellington Harbour with engine problems in January last year, and later hit a wharf while berthing,
Kiwirail said she had undergone a major refit.
The ship, which can carry up to 550 passengers, is due to begin sailing about mid-October.
