Auckland's Middlemore Hospital says its infectious diseases team is now fully trained for dealing with ebola, and it's working to get other staff up to speed with the deadly disease.
Middlemore is one of the country's four hospitals designated to treat any patients diagnosed with ebola.
Clinical Director of Infection Services David Holland said it was unlikely there would be any cases, but he said the focus was now on training staff who don't specialise in infectious diseases, so they could help out.
"We could probably do it with the doctors and nurses we have at the moment for a few days, but I had a meeting with a group of interested nurses and we've taken them to the unit and started the initial training and I'm meeting with another group next week."
Dr Holland said they had called on interested staff to come forward, rather than pushing people into the training.
