A tramper has been airlifted to Nelson Hospital after falling ill in the Nelson Lakes area.
The 62-year-old from the Tasman region was tramping with friends when he became unwell and decided to stay at the hut on the Durville River while the group went on a day tramp.
A Nelson-Marlborough rescue helicopter spokesperson says the man activated his personal locater beacon and a helicopter was sent about 4pm on Monday.
The spokesperson says the man was assessed by an intensive care paramedic on the helicopter and taken to hospital for further assessment.
