If you think Fieldays 2024 is all about utes, tractors, sheep and cows, prepare to be surprised.

One of the exhibits at Mystery Creek this year belongs to a Canadian company CanAm that manufactures of recreational vehicles.

And the star attraction at the stall is Auckland man Andrew Hill - an "adventure fisherman" and the global brand ambassador for Can-Am's jetski Sea-Doo

Hill told First Up it made sense to have the Sea-Doo on display at Fieldays.

"We're surrounded by water so it makes sense to say the farmers are time poor and want to have some fun to also see that they've got Sea-Doo on offer."

Hill used the Sea-Doo for fishing.

"I get to fish amazing locations with friends all over the country and it's a pretty cool way to get out there and just put it behind your vehicle and go wherever you want and see what New Zealand's got on offer," he said.

But there were times it got a bit scary.

"When you see a whale breech beside you or something it does get a bit freaky out there."

Hill had caught quite a few fish but wanted to catch bigger fish.

"There's been some big yellow tail kingfish over the years and then recently a couple of Hapuku.

"It's the joys of fishing, you're never content with what you caught last, you always want to see your goals higher and that's why I get out there just enjoying it and going on these new adventures around the country."

He fell in love with fishing as a child and later started working on personal waterfcraft projects.

Around 2017 Hill's work caught the attention of the Sea-Doo division of Can-Am.

The company asked him to help develop the Sea-Doo Fish Pro range.

"Over the years, the watercraft have got bigger and as technology's evolved with more innovation, they've become pretty amazing platforms just for stability and what sort of sea conditions they can ride in.

"Often I'll go sort of 50/60 kilometres offshore from the mainland so it's pretty amazing how far you can get on them and how much confidence we've got in the craft. "

As for Fieldays, Hill said he was looking forward to a few things.

"I've heard good things about the food, it's wonderful at the Fieldays and then also all the innovation."
