The 26-year-old was taken to hospital in a critical condition early on Friday morning and had surgery that day.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old Auckland man is also in a stable condition after receiving head injuries when he fell from an e-scooter over the weekend.

Police have confirmed the e-scooter was not a Lime rental scooter.
