Cash Shortage in ANZ Amerika Samoa

14:06 pm on 13 October 2004

Irregular domestic flights in American Samoa have created a shortage of cash on Manu'a.

The ANZ Amerika Samoa banks on Fitiuta and Ofu have been cash-strapped, given the lack of a regular air service from Tutuila.

Residents report that on some paydays, the bank cannot cash government paychecks as cash supplies weren't delivered.

The CEO of ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank, Gary Ayre, said irregular flights to Manu'a presented challenges.

Mr Ayre says Polynesian Airlines is trying to assist, given the gap left in air services to Manu'a, after Safari Airways pulled out.
