13:14 pm on 11 November 2015

Vanuatu's prime minister, Sato Kilman, has appointed the agriculture and fisheries minister, Christopher Emelee, as the deputy prime minister.

Mr Emelee replaces Moana Carcasses who was jailed for four years last month when he was among 14 government MPs convicted on bribery charges.

With plans to form a government of national unity so far failing, Mr Kilman proceeded to fill ministries left vacant by the jailing.

Robert Bohn has become new minister of justice to replace Dunstan Hilton who has take over as minister of trade.

The Court of Appeal is due to hear from tomorrow the appeals of the convicted MPs.

Parliament has been in a stalemate since their imprisonment and the president, Baldwin Lonsdale, has now given the politicians until November the 22nd to end the impasse.
