Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has told the New York Times that the one mistake with his 2006 coup was that he wished he had done in 2001.
The military leader had helped pave the way for polls in 2001 after the 2000 coup but he expressed displeasures at the policies of the new prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, who is now facing abuse of office charges dating back to late 1990s.
In the interview, he didn't rule out nor commit himself to run for office as Fiji is preparing for elections now promised for 2014.
The Land Forces Commander, Colonel Mosese Tikoitonga, has said the military has no plans to run a political party but Commodore Bainimarama has said should he stand, he expected to win.
