She replaces Amigene Metcalfe who stood down last month after three years in charge.

Araroa has signed a two year deal to lead the Magic, who finshed bottom the last two years.

She has previously coached the New Zealand Secondary Schools team, assistant to the Silver Ferns Fast5 team and was head coach of Waikato-BOP's National Netball League team in 2018 and 2020.

Araroa guided the former Northern Force franchise in the old domestic league in 1998.

"Over the past three years I have seen the growth from many of our athletes and I'm excited about how the Magic can move forward and what this opportunity brings," said Araroa.

Changes to Lions and Boks

Chris Harris was shocked by his selection for the British & Irish Lions after being named in the starting lineup to take on South Africa in the second test this weekend.

The Scotland international replaces Elliot Daly at outside centre in one of three changes made by coach Warren Gatland to the starting XV for the clash at the Cape Town Stadium.

"It was a surprise, a nice surprise for me. I was a bit taken aback when my name was read out by Warren, but I am absolutely delighted," the 30-year-old said.

Meanwhile prop Mako Vunipola replaces Rory Sutherland with halfback Conor Murray in for Ali Price.

South Africa picked two new front rowers and made another change in the pack.

An injury to Ox Nche sees Steven Kitshoff comes in at tighthead, Frans Malherbe is in the starting line-up on the loosehead side and Jasper Wiese is preferred at number eight ahead of Kwagga Smith.

The Lions won the first Test 22-17.

United confirm Varane signing

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign defender Raphael Varane.

It is understood the clubs have agreed an initial fee of $68m, which could rise to $84m, and that Varane, 28, has agreed terms on a four-year contract with the option for another 12 months.

United said the transfer would be completed "subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised".

Varane, a World Cup winner with France, has made 360 appearances for Real.

Varane, who has 79 caps, will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's third signing in this transfer window - following the re-signing of goalkeeper Tom Heaton and the $146m arrival of England winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Former boss Sir Alex Ferguson originally pursued a deal for the player before his move to Madrid, and Jose Mourinho was also keen to add the defender to his squad during his time at Old Trafford.

Red Bull want Hamilton collision reviewed

Red Bull have lodged a request for stewards to review the British Grand Prix collision between Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen that slashed their driver's Formula One championship lead.

The governing FIA says stewards can re-examine their decision if "a significant and relevant new element is discovered which was unavailable to the parties seeking the review at the time of the decision".

The stewards have sole discretion to determine whether such a new element exists.

It was not immediately clear what new information Red Bull might offer.

Hamilton was deemed to have caused the collision at Silverstone and handed a 10 second penalty but still went on to win his home race for a record-stretching eighth time.

Verstappen crashed out after the contact, ending up in hospital for checks, and saw his championship lead cut from 33 points to eight after 10 races.

T20 game postponed

The second Twenty20 international between Sri Lanka and India, scheduled for Tuesday in Colombo, was pushed back by a day after India's Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19.

The teams will now play the remaining two fixtures of the three-match series on consecutive days, with the third match also to be played in Colombo. India won the first game by 38 runs in Colombo on Sunday.

The positive test could give Indian batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav a nervous wait as they were picked for India's test series against England and were slated to travel at the end of the Sri Lanka tour.

Rodgers back at training

NFL star Aaron Rodgers has reported for work sporting sunglasses and a man bun.

The quarterback's casual look notwithstanding, this marked the first time that Rodgers was with the Green Bay Packers since his exit interview after the team's 31-26 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game.

Rodgers, fresh off being selected the NFL's Most Valuable Player for the third time in his career, skipped the Packers' mandatory minicamp last month after expressing frustration with the team's front office.

His presence today allows Rodgers to avoid the $72,000 daily fine for sitting out camp-related events.

Rodgers, 37, has played with the Packers for his entire 16-year career. He has passed for 51,245 yards and 412 touchdowns, and he won a Super Bowl ring with the franchise at the end of the 2010 season.

League players had no say

Players were not consulted before Australia and New Zealand withdrew from the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, a director of the Rugby League Players' Association has said.

The competition is scheduled to be held in England in October and November, but Australia and New Zealand have pulled out, citing "player welfare and safety concerns" related to Covid-19.

"I was thoroughly disappointed [with the decision]," said Christian Welch, a Melbourne Storm and Queensland prop forward.

"We had an RLPA board meeting the day before it was announced and the players were caught off guard as 24 hours later we were told the Kiwis and Australians had pulled out.

"The major reason given was player welfare but the body that represents the majority of players was not consulted."
