The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic produced their best performance in the trans-Tasman netball competition in Hamilton with a 63-45 win over the defending champion New South Wales Swifts.
The Magic's win wasn't unexpected but the margin was a shock after an ordinary start to the season.
They led 19-7 after the first quarter, and outstanding defence ensured the Swifts never had a chance to recover from their one-goal loss to the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
While the Swifts lost defender Rebecca Bulley and goal shoot and captain Catherine Cox with injuries in the first half it's doubtful they'd have been able to stop their side's first loss to the Magic.
The hosts finished with 100 and 93 per cent shooting stats from Irene van Dyk and Maria Tutaia.
But it wasn't such a good night for the Northern Mystics in Perth where the West Coast won 57-46, their first win this season.
