More calls to Lifeline this year

Lifeline handled a record number of calls this year, with 400 counsellors answering 128,775 calls.

Chief executive Jo Denvir said family and relationship issues are still among the main reasons people call.

But the service is getting more and more calls from people in Christchurch almost three years after the February 2011 earthquake.

Ms Denvir said people still living with the reality of damaged homes and ongoing insurance problems, are finding it harder to manage their emotions.
