The party of Ukraine's former prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk says it is absurd fake news that his wife obtained Vanuatu citizenship.
A Ukrainian news site Elise Journal also reported that Mr Yatsenyuk had become a dual citizen which for a politician is against the law
However, the office of his People's Front Party said the information is false although it was widely spread by Russian and Russia-affiliated websites.
It said Mr Yatsenyuk lives and works in Ukraine and his wife Tereziya Yatsenyuk lives and works as a psychologist in the capital Kyiv.
It said they do not have any other citizenship besides Ukrainian.
However, Elise Journal said it was prepared to state in court that Mr Yatsenyuk had acquired another citizenship.
Vanuatu sells passports, making it a significant source of government revenue.
Mr Yatsenyuk, whose party is pro-Western, was the prime minister until 2016 after serving earlier as Ukraine's foreign minister and finance minister.
