Filipino worker ban sparks fears of labour shortage in Guam

The US government's decision to ban Filipino workers from its temporary work visa programme for a year has sparked concerns about a labour shortage in Guam.

The Homeland Security Department said the ban was because of the high numbers of overstayers and trafficking victims from the Philippines.

But The Pacific Daily News reported Filipinos are the main source of temporary labour for the construction industry on Guam, a US territory just east of the Philippines.
