No train services this weekend

13:55 pm on 15 July 2011

Passenger trains will be a standstill in Auckland this weekend, as KiwiRail upgrades its tracks as part of preparations for the Rugby World Cup.

No trains will run from 10pm on Friday until 4.30am on Monday.

Track changes at the two stations closest to Eden Park will mean that more than one train from each station can travel in the same direction.

KiwiRail says the changes will mean that rugby crowds can leave the Eden Park area faster.

The changes have already been made at Kingsland station.

KiwiRail is also adjusting the tracks at Morningside this weekend.

The adjustments are costing around $750,000 for each station.

Also this weekend, new signals will be added to tracks around the city, for the first time in 80 years. They will be activated later this month.
