Firefighters are continuing to damp down hotspots following a fire at an Invercargill storage facility.
About 40 firefighters and nine trucks fought the blaze at the company Freight Haulage during its peak last night.
The fire, in an area where palm kernel was being stored, is largely contained but hotspots remain.
Two fire crews remain at the site.
Specialist machinery to clear the palm kernel was expected to arrive at the site this morning.
Crews were called to Freight Haulage on Lake Street in the suburb of Clifton about 4.30pm yesterday.
The fire had been contained to one 50-by-30-metre building at the facility by 9pm, but firefighters have monitored the scene through the night.
Fire and Emergency's incident controller Julian Tohiariki said the storage building and its contents were probably beyond repair.
"Whatever is in there ... certainly will be under question. The building itself, it won't be salvageable by the time the fire is out."
Tohiariki said efforts to remove any remaining fire fuels from the building will be made this morning.
Fire and Emergency said smoke from the fire drifted across southern parts of Invercargill, but it was not toxic.
