A teenager has been airlifted to hospital with a serious head injury after being thrown from his quad bike in Golden Bay.
The 17-year-old was riding the off-road quad bike on a beach near Mangarakau, west of Collingwood, at about 10am when he lost control and was thrown several metres over rocks on the shore line.
The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter flew him to Wellington Hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.
