Police have charged a man with murdering Janak Patel outside a superette in Auckland, and charged another with robbery.

Police said Patel, 34, was fatally stabbed on Wednesday night during a confrontation outside the Rose Cottage Superette in Sandringham, where he was working.

On Friday evening, Detective Inspector Scott Beard said a 34-year-old man had been taken into custody at a New Lynn address and was charged with aggravated robbery and murder.

A 42-year-old man was also charged with robbery in connection to the incident.

Both were scheduled to appear at the Auckland District Court on Saturday.

Police said they were continuing their investigation into the case.

They especially wanted to hear from anyone who saw a dark coloured Honda Inspire car in areas near the Rose Cottage Superette in Sandringham, on Wednesday.
