Telecom to cut overseas data roaming charges

13:47 pm on 10 December 2012

Telecom is to cut its data roaming prices for those travelling overseas.

From Friday next week, Telecom will introduce a flat daily rate for people and firms on its smartphone plans, a change from its practice of charging on a usage basis.

Australia will start at $6 per day until the end of June, when Telecom will review the rate.

Users will pay $10 per day for data in Britain, the United States, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia.

The company says data roaming charges will be slashed by about 83% - 92% in other markets, although charges will continue to be on a usage basis.
