Solomon Islands attorney general in Australia

18:49 pm on 7 January 2014

The Solomon Islands Attorney General, Billy Titiulu, is reported to have travelled to Australia to meet a predecessor.

The Fiji-born Australian lawyer, Julian Moti, was the Solomon Islands Attorney General between 2006 and 2007 when Manasseh Sogavare was Prime Minister.

Mr Titiulu's trip has been described as top secret, but it is understood the two lawyers will discuss a settlement for Mr Moti for his wrongful deportation to Australia by the Solomon Islands government towards the end of 2007.

The trip is understood to go in line with an announcement in Parliament by the Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, that Solomon Islands will pay Mr Moti this year for the wrongful deportation and the premature termination of his employment contract with the Government.

Mr Lilo has not revealed any figures on the settlement, but it is expected to be millions of Solomon Islands dollars.
