Thousands of people are expected to attend an electronic music concert in Lower Hutt, near Wellington, on Saturday.

This is Living - a new one-day festival by events promoter Breaking Beats - will be held at McEwan Park/Hikoikoi Reserve from 2pm till 10.30pm as part of Massey University's orientation.

Mayor Campbell Barry said the concert added to the "cultural depth" of Lower Hutt, and would give students a taste of the wider Wellington region.

"Electronic music fans from around Lower Hutt and our region are going to love the outdoor festival vibes. McEwan Park is the place to be this weekend."

The festival will feature two dozen house, drum'n'bass and garage artists perform across two stages, including an extended set from British DJ and music producer Andy C.

Breaking Beats director Chris Keimig said holding the event at McEwan Park was an easy decision.

"It's an amazing venue for a festival, with an awesome setting that's close to the ocean and the surrounding native bush."
