A central Dunedin street is blocked on Tuesday morning while firefighters respond to a house fire.

Fire and emergency said it was alerted to the blaze in the ceiling of the property on Stuart Street just before 6.30am.

A spokesperson said four crews responded and had put out the fire, but remained at the scene to mop up, blocking off a small section of the street.

They said all of the house occupants got out safely and there have been no injuries.

A fire investigator is also on site, but the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
