More train services are expected to be cancelled in Wellington Wednesday as rail staff continue their industrial action.

On Tuesday staff began working to rule, which resulted in the cancellation of several commuter train services.

Metlink spokesperson Samantha Gain said the 6.20am and the 6.47am Wairarapa Line services from Masterton were replaced by bus because of the industrial action.

The Capital Connection train from Palmerston North to Wellington will be replaced with buses.

Although the staff are employed by Metlink operator Transdev, their action affected the KiwiRail service on Tuesday, when the train to Palmerston North was cancelled.

KiwiRail said it was looking at ways to avoid more disruption.

More cancellations were likely.
