The New Zealand squash number one Joelle King has been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Squash Championships in Malaysia.

The tournament fifth seed lost to the unseeded three-time world junior champion Nour El Sherbini 11-9 8-11 13-11 11-6 in 52 minutes.

The Egyptian became the youngest-ever semi-finalist at 18 but must now overcome world number one Nicol David, who beat eighth seeded Frenchwoman Camille Serme in an epic five-setter.

The Malaysian's countrywoman Low Wee Wern couldn't join her in the final four, the world No.7 squandering four match balls in the fourth game to lose in five to world No.2 Laura Massaro of England.

Massaro faces world No.3 Raneem El Welily, who made it a first for Egypt after surviving a solid challenge from Ireland's experienced Madeline Perry, winning 10-12 14-12 11-3 7-11 11-7 to confirm two Egyptian semi-finalists for the first time.
