Thousands of New Zealanders have pledged to host a refugee in response to the crisis in Europe.
A Facebook event called 'Open Homes, Open Borders - We Will Host a Refugee' set up by a Swiss-born social activist, Urs Signer, has had more than 2500 people sign up.
It asks whether people have a spare room, sleepout or holiday home, or whether children could share a bedroom in order to accommodate asylum seekers.
Mr Signer told Radio New Zealand's Sunday Morning programme that more needs to be more done to help refugees, and people are taking action, having seen the images of the crisis over the past week.
