The former board of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whangaroa is rejecting criticism of the school's governance by a group of parents.
The Ministry of Education appointed a commissioner, Larry Forbes, after an earlier ballot wasn't carried out properly.
Former board chair Terry Smith said despite that - the ministry has never raised any issues about the governance of the kura and has said all decisions made by the board stand.
He said the investigation by the commissioner is only to review the election process.
But in a statement, the Ministry of Education told Te Manu Korihi - the Commissioner, Larry Forbes will be responsible for addressing all aspects of governance at the school, including safety and standards of education.
The Ministry of Education is to meet the former board on Wednesday to discuss the process for the review of the 2013 board election.
