Lyttelton residents are welcoming Government intervention to speed up development of the Lyttelton Port.
Earthquake Recovery Minister, Gerry Brownlee has ordered the Canterbury Regional Council and the Lyttelton Port Company to draft a recovery plan by July 2015.
He said the recovery plan process will be faster than applying for consents under the Resource Management Act.
Lyttelton Community Association archivist Tasman Young said residents have been waiting more than 15 years for the port to be developed.
He said the community wants to regain public access to the waterfront and hopes the plan will include a recreational boating area.
