A magnitude 4.5 earthquake centred just north of Wellington has been felt across much of the country this evening.
GeoNet says the quake hit at 6.15pm at a depth of 25km and it was centred 10km north-east of Porirua.
More than 13,000 people registered having felt the earthquake on the GeoNet website with reports of several seconds of shaking from those living in both the North and South islands.
There are no reports of damage.
