A gas leak from a property is causing significant disruption to traffic flows in the area of Hill Road in Manurewa, police say.
Emergency services were alerted just before 3pm.
Police are assisting Fire and Emergency New Zealand with the incident.
Diversions are in place but are causing traffic to back up prior to the Southern Motorway (SH 1) off-ramp to Hill Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
The leak is also disrupting bus services for commuters with all bus stops on Hill Rd east of SH1 closed, Auckland Transport said in a social media post.
