Fiji SDL party wants military boss to apologise to Fijians

16:16 pm on 16 March 2006

The campaign director of Fiji's ruling SDL Party, Jale Baba, has called on the military commander to apologise to the Fijian people for his remarks.

Mr Baba told the Fiji Times that Commodore Frank Bainimarama had insulted Fijians by describing Fiji politics as cannibalistic.

He says the Commander seems to be saying that Fiji politics is uncivilised and savage.

Mr Baba accused the Commander of joining the opposition leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, in making insulting references to the indigenous Fijian people.

Fiji will go to the polls in the second week of May.
