Close to 50 Central Otago homes are without power as the mercury drops below zero after a bus collided with powerlines.
Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on Chatto Creek-Springvale Road shortly before 10am.
One person has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Aurora Energy said close to 300 customers were initially without power but that fewer than 50 homes remained without power.
MetService reported Alexandra was the coldest place in the country, dropping to below minus two degrees overnight.
It is also only expected to reach 6deg C today.
