A woman in French Polynesia is in hospital after she was badly beaten in an election-related attack at the weekend.
Reports say drunken supporters of the Union for Democracy assaulted her in Faa'a after she had taken part in a car convoy around Tahiti in support of the ruling Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party.
The Tahoeraa has issued a statement, saying this isn't an isolated incident but is part of racial taunts never seen before.
It says it's the result of a hate campaign by the Union for Democracy which, it says, is supported and encouraged by the French Socialist Party.
The Union for Democracy has issued a statement and condemned the assault.
