A new batch of MPs are battling the wintry Wellington weather, and some nerves, as they arrive for their first day in Parliament.

Thirty-two MPs will be welcomed today, with an official ceremony taking place tomorrow.

Political leaders are also returning, as both National and Labour look to strike a deal with New Zealand First.
New Labour and Ohariu MP Greg O'Connor said it felt like starting school again.
"No doubt there will be a few bright eyed and bushy tailed men and women like myself coming in this morning."

"It's been a big road to here, and really happy to have the election past us and focussing on the next phase."
Labour MP Tamati Coffey said he too had a few nerves.
He also had this message for New Zealand First leader Winston Peters.
"He's 72-years-old and he's been in Parliament longer than I've been alive, so I say to Winston... come over to this side."

On provisional numbers, neither National nor Labour can form a government without the nine seats of New Zealand First.
Senior National MP Todd McClay said everyone needed to stay calm during an important period of negotiations.
"I have huge amount of respect for Winston [Peters]. He's a long serving servant of our Parliament, I think it will be very interesting.
"It's not for me to offer advice but we need to be very very calm and think about what's best for New Zealand," he said.
The government is currently in care-taker mode and Cabinet will meet today as usual.
