Higher than usual no of American Samoa cop resignations

19:08 pm on 15 August 2016

American Samoa's policemen are resigning in higher-than-usual numbers, with 15 leaving in the last few months.

Our correspondent says many are seeking better opportunities in other countries.

In a House Public Safety Committee hearing, the Public Safety Commissioner Save Liuato Tuitele said the reasons given by the officers did not include financial ones, but he suspected salaries played a major factor.

He said other motives are spouses who have work off-island, and the attraction of more lucrative job offers.
