Commissioner not worried about dashcams

The Privacy Commissioner's office says it is not concerned about the growing number of dashcams in cars.

Dashboard-mounted cameras - or dashcams - have recently captured footage of valet joyrides, people hanging out of sunroofs and dangerous speeding, and often the content was uploaded to social media sites.

Commissioner spokesperson Annabel Fordham said it was not worried about the trend, as most dashcams generally captured images of travel and vehicles in public places and not identifiable images of people.

She said the office encouraged people to be mindful of images of others when sharing dashcam footage on social media.
