The number of new community cases has dropped below the 5000 mark today, but the seven-day rolling average is still up on last week.
In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said while there were 4990 new community cases today, the seven-day rolling average has risen from 7608 a week ago to 7863 today.
There were also 10 new deaths reported, including two people in their 70s, six in their 80s and two aged over 90. Nine were men and one was a woman.
Two were from the Auckland region; two from Waikato; one from Lakes; one from MidCentral; three from Canterbury; and one from Southern.
There are 379 people in hospital with the coronavirus, down from 400 yesterday, with nine in ICU.
Today's new community cases were reported in Northland (140), Auckland (1693), Waikato (353), Bay of Plenty (165), Lakes (88), Hawke's Bay (166), MidCentral (182), Whanganui (62), Taranaki (137), Tairāwhiti (27), Wairarapa (58), Capital and Coast (351), Hutt Valley (134), Nelson Marlborough (165), Canterbury (799), South Canterbury (84), Southern (344) and West Coast (36) DHBs.
There were also 60 new cases identified at the border.
There were 6635 new community cases and six deaths reported yesterday.
The Ministry of Health said there are currently 55,565 active cases in New Zealand. There have now been 1,094,659 cases of Covid-19 reported in this country.
