The main street in the south Otago town of Balclutha is to get its first makeover in 30 years.
The Clutha District Council has awarded a $2.3 million dollar contract to the construction firm, Fulton Hogan, to do up the town's main street.
Powerlines will be taken out, new trees and seats put in, and a new outdoor plaza created.
The mayor, Bryan Cadogan, said it was a watershed moment for the district, which is finally taking a positive step to lift the town centre.
The upgrade is expected to be finished by November.
