The Pacific Community concluded its annual conference with the adoption of a new 10-year strategic plan, and the return of one of its founding members.

The SPC said in a statement that the plan, which aligns with the region's 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, was created through a process driven by members and encapsulating common values, priorities and visions.

Pacific indigenous languages were incorporated for the first time in its overarching values; aroha, or care; kaitiakitanga or stewardship; enginkelap or generosity and gida gaituvwa or unity.

The SPC members welcomed back Britain, which had been a founding member in 1947.

Other highlights included an agreement to establish an SPC Polynesian Regional Office, though no decision has been made on its location.
