A man has died after being stabbed this afternoon in Momona, a small town near Dunedin.
Police said the assault was reported on Miller Road just before 2pm today.
While the man, who suffered stab wounds, was initially reported to be in a moderated condition, he deteriorated while being taken to hospital and arrived in a critical condition.
He has since died from his injuries.
Police were speaking with those involved to piece together the circumstances of the incident.
Police said it appeared the people involved knew each other.
The scene has been cordoned off.
