The Secretariat of the Pacific Community says France is to provide funding for an international climate change expert, who will be based at the SPC from early next year.

The President of France, Francois Hollande, made the announcement during talks with Pacific leaders at the SPC's headquarters in Noumea.

The SPC says the climate change expert will provide technical support to Pacific countries and territories in the lead up to next year's climate change summit in Paris.

It says Mr Hollande has also said he will push for a percentage of contributions from the Green Climate Fund to be allocated to the Pacific region.
