The legislation will amend the Resource Management Act to allow landowners to build up to three storeys without resource consent.

One of many changes already made to the bill includes reducing the maximum height people can build to on their boundary from 6 metres to 4 metres.

The bill has just passed its second reading with support from Labour, National, Te Paati Māori and the Green Party - with the ACT Party opposed.
