Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we catch Wellington band Destroy All False Metal.
Newly minted Wellington four-piece Destroy All False Metal have a name that sounds part Islamic fatwa and part Papal bull; like if the Pope secretly listened to Slayer and issued proclamations to wipe the Earth clean of all heavy metal defilers.
Formed as an impromptu scratch band by vocalist Joel Cosgrove at last summers Chronophonium festival, Destroy All False Metal currently features Jonathan Shirley (Beat Comber) on guitar; Fraser (Sport Royal) on drums; Lucas William Donnell (Goya) on bass; with local rabble rouser Cosgrove providing the lyrics.
The end result is an absurdist take on a jazz/ metal/ hip-hop/ noise crossover band in the vein of early 90s Mr Bungle.
