The Aratere has been repaired today and will resume service tonight.
The Aratere was damaged while docking at the Wellington wharf about 10pm last night.
A spokesperson said no passengers were hurt or vehicles damaged, but the ferry needed repairing before services could resume.
The Interislander's general manager Mark Thompson said the ferry has been repaired and will be used for the 10.45 sailing tonight.
He has apologised for any inconvenience to customers, but said safety was a top priority.
Three ferry sailings were cancelled and passengers and freight booked on the ferry were put on other sailings.
