19:34 pm on 10 October 2014

A former principal has been censured and struck off after being convicted of stealing more than $30,000 from a decile one school in South Auckland.

Colleen Margaret Gray was sentenced to 12 months' home detention at the Auckland District Court in May. Her husband, Bruce Kenneth Gray got 10 months.

The couple admitted cheating Mayfield Primary School in Otara by using the husband's company to file false invoices in the names of fictitious teachers.

Colleen Gray also admitted using the school's credit card and chequebook to pay for three separate trips to Australia.

In a decision released this week, the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal has cancelled her registration.

Before the tribunal, she accepted that her actions amounted to serious misconduct.
